Neermahal - the water palace

This is just the beginning. The boat head is heading towards a beautiful creation of royal era in Tripura. A palace in the middle of a lake Neermahal is now a must visit spot for tourists.

This summer retreat of the royal family was built by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya in the 1930s. With the merger of the kingdom with Indian Union just after the death of king Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur the royalty evolved in a different manner afterwards. As the full democracy set in with the attainment Statehood in 1972 many royal edifices were gradually taken over by the state government, so is with Neermahal. Now it is managed by the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation.

This is situated in Melaghar at a distance of about 50 km from the capital city Agartala. The palace still stands strong with its royal glory in the middle of Rudrasagar Lake. One can access the palace by boat only which is available at the ghat. Per person ticket costs Rs. 50. If someone wants to enjoy the sunset from the bank of Rudrasagar or spend a night there Sagarmahal resort is there to welcome you.
